Question

SLPKNT68: May 09 2006

question for Steve Cotter

Steve is your full kontact kettlebells DVDs going to have a thrid volume? Just curious. Thanks.

Answer

Steve Cotter: May 10 2006

Thanks your question and interest. I will most likely produce a volume 3 Full KOntact Kettlebells, however I can't tell you when. I am currently working on several other projects and wish to document all of my ideas and experience over time. I consider the Full KOntact DVDs a special project in a sense that they were my first attempts at teaching in a media format, and when I watch them I can see the evolution of my experience over time. It is very important to me that volume 3 and beyond will address a significant contribution to the ideas presented over the first two volumes, so I still have more things I am currently developing in the realm of combat athletics and that is the direction all further Full KOntact Kettlebell DVD projects will be taking. Question

Randy Hauer RKC: May 28 2006

Anyone know results from NAKF GS Nationals? n/m

Answer

Steve Cotter: May 28 2006

Hi Randy, I know as meet director this is my responsibility but due to social obligations with all the visitors in town and the fact that I am going up to the mountains for a few days with the family (with no internet), I won't be able to post a complete list until most likely Tuesday. So, I will supply highlights for now. There was a tremendous show from the Men's Masters 24kg category. There were I believe 6 Masters, 2 of which his CMS numbers. Best Male Lifter-Valery Fedorenko---32kg Traditional---90 jerks; 60/60 snatch Best Female Lifter---Catherine Imes---16kg----200 snatch reps (a new American competition record!) Every person improved over their last meet (except for a few first timers), some dramatically. A GREAT time was had by all and the venue was awesome! More to come Steve Cotter

Steve Cotter upper back mobility

Steve I have always admired your grace and athleticism. I was wondering if you had any drills for upper back mobility. Currently my thoracic spine, lats and rhomboids are chronically tight. I will be going to a chiro very soon but I would be interested in hearing any suggestions you may have. Thanks Craig

Answer

Steve Cotter: May 31 2006

Hi Craig, Thanks for your comments and question. I find the movements from the system of internal martial arts Baguazhang to be the most complete mobility patterns I have experienced. In particular a set of movements known as 'serving tea cups'. These are impossible to describe verbally, because they work in all planes in a spiral fashion. I hope to make these movements available to you on DVD before the end of this year. What I recommend for now is a series of progressions using the OH Squat. Use a pvc pipe, broom stick or rope. 1. Hands wide, feet wide 2. Hands wide, feet narrow 3. Hands close, feet wide 4. Hands close, feet narrow The ultimate in this is to do OH Squats with hands together and feet together, but you have to work up to it using the above progressions. These will develop tremendous mobility and flexibility throughout the entire spine. Also, movements that involve extension in the spine will benefit (assuming you have no injury). Yoga movements like the cobra is very good for spinal health. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Steve

September ay I drove in a major snow storm with white out conditions to Tom Phillip's gym for another fantastic Cotter seminar. For me it was worth the trip to train with Steve ( always seems to bring my level of training up a few notches). Started with classic Cotter dynamic warm ups on the mat, tumbling, partner drills etc.(I missed most of the warm up due to blizzard conditions, although that's no excuse). We did walking swings forward, back, side, crescent. Went over cleans, jerks, windmills, bent press, and more. I believe it is very important to hit the basics hard over and over in order to keep them perfected. Thanks Steve for yet another great session, my body is paying for it today. Thanks Tom for hosting.
