Question

Randy Hauer RKC: April 19 2006

Officiated for New Ultimate Jerk Score: 103

By the powers invested in me by Jared in MT in my capacity as an RKC, I hereby swear and attest to the score of 103 Long Cycle clean and jerks in 10 minutes with the Bulldog Kettlebell by Matt Swarner, 4/18/06 at Volant Fitness in Downingtown, PA. Awesome job Matt!! RH

I spoke with Valery Fedorenko a few nights ago. He did 104 reps in 10:00 recently. He said he'll try again and will try for 110. Tell Matt I said hello and great job. I'll try this test when it moves me to do so ;-) Steve

Question

Shawn Baldwin: April 26 2006

Steve Maxwell.....everybody...Matt Hughes vs. Royce Gracie ..who'll win?

Answer

Steve Cotter: April 26 2006

no questions Royce is taking this very seriously and is preparing for Hughes the best he can (including grappling training with Rulon Gardner). Hughes is very powerful and the smart money says he will overpower Gracie. My hope is that Hughes will be too agressive and force his way into a position where he will be overextended and Gracie can catch his arm. Will be a great fight either way. Steve

Question

NekidWarriorPaul: April 28 2006

Mr. Cotter-any new news about the 49ers?

Ive been a 9ers fan for all my 23 years, born n raised in the bay. Just excited to hear about them taking up kettlebell training.

Answer

Steve Cotter: April 28 2006

Thanks for asking. I haven't been up to their camp since last month, but the strength coaches and I keep in touch every few weeks and they give me progress reports and go over any questions about techniques and implementation. They are using the kettlebells quite extensively with most of the players in all positions. A favorite has become the Turkish Get Up for its shoulder stability and flexibility demands, as well as for the focus it requires to perform it. I think it is an exciting time to be a 49er fan again. While they may not be ready for the Super Bowl this year, I think they are definitely taking steps in the right direction, and integrating a more dynamic S&C routine into the curriculum will have no small part in that. Of course, it will help if they can get TE Vernon Davis with their first pick, so that Alex Smith has a big body to throw to ;-) It takes time to implement a new strategy inot a team concept, so I won't expect any miracles right away, but I do thing they are making a good choice and the injury rate and ultimately scoreboard will verify that one way or the other. I think they have a great coaching staff top to bottom and they are bringing in the right personnel, imo. Steve

September ay I drove in a major snow storm with white out conditions to Tom Phillip's gym for another fantastic Cotter seminar. For me it was worth the trip to train with Steve ( always seems to bring my level of training up a few notches). Started with classic Cotter dynamic warm ups on the mat, tumbling, partner drills etc.(I missed most of the warm up due to blizzard conditions, although that's no excuse). We did walking swings forward, back, side, crescent. Went over cleans, jerks, windmills, bent press, and more. I believe it is very important to hit the basics hard over and over in order to keep them perfected. Thanks Steve for yet another great session, my body is paying for it today. Thanks Tom for hosting.
