Help!Pavel,John,Dennis,LEOs and LEO/Firefighter trainers!

I have an opportunity after much perseverance to train the local FBI contingency as well as some firefighters here in colorado springs co. I plan on giving free seminars (to give something back and to introduce "Party" methods) as well as continue my one-on-one training. I was wonder if there was anyway anyone could contribute data/pics/current participation facts/pics/results etc that would help me present what these training methodologies could do for them. I want the Dragondoor methodology to look polished and appropriate for such associations. Many of the local LEO's are still stuck in AHHHHNOLD'S bodybuilding mode. People STILL look at me like I'm crazy when I discuss climbing ropes instead of "well what do you think the best grip on the lat pull down is?". Plus the local FBI guys and gals have crap for a facility and very little space. As such I think kettlebells (and sandbags) would be ideal as well as the GTG mentality for what many of these folks REALLY need. Thought? Help? Advice? PDFs? Promo packs? Anyone? Thanks in advance! Make sure you come to the Level two Training in June having got certified in April. Ron Morris is having tremendous success here locally with firefighters and I am sure he will share some tips with you there. Plus I would be very surprised if Zar Horton and of course Tom Corrigan aren't there also. (Ron is not an internet kind of guy so don't expect to hear from him through this medium.)

Thoughts and Opinions on Massage Therapy...........

I just got married and my wife and her whole family are massage junkies...2 olympians in her family so they are all serious athletes. She spends a lot of money on Massage and has demanded I try it. My first few massages felt good, but did not seem too theraputic. She sent me to her "superstrong" guy for a 90 minute "prisoner of war" deep tissue. I felt really weak and crappy for the rest of the day after this painful massage. I am not so sure about this "all the toxins being released" as being a cause of my malise. I know from my medical training that heavy massage can damage lymphatic vessles etc (not major or permanant), but I admit I know almost nothing about massage. Do most liscenced practitioners of massage have a good understanding of where not to massage deeply and is there any time when massage can do damage?

For every really good massage therapist out there, there are ten mediocre who will give you poor results. My advice would be to seek out highly trained Shiatsu/Anma/Tui Na therapists -- you'll come out feeling like a million bucks and you will know they did you good. They will also help root out the wrong kind of tightness in your body. Thai massage would be another good choice. I also consider I have received good benefits from ART, Cranio-Sacral (needs to be very experienced and skillful) and Rolfing. I like to get bodywork on a regular basis and have had just about every style out there at one time or another. About half of the people I have been to have been a bust. Overall good bodywork should only help your performance.

Matt Furey

OK, I know a lot of people have discussed this guy already but I have to know something. Is that letter that Karl Gotch wrote about Matt Furey authentic? Seriously, Karl Gotch is a legend, everyone on this forum should know that and respect it. If this letter is real, why are people still supporting Matt Furey? Has Matt had anything to say regarding the letter? http://www.scientificwrestling.com/letter_from_karl.htm Another thing, is Matt Furey really a fraud? He claims he was trained in Shaolin Kung Fu, knows many health "secrets" of the Chinese and Tibetans. How? You can't just feed people secrets and expect them to believe it without rescources. That's just placebo to customers!! He also claims he is a fitness guru. At least Pavel Tsatsouline has a degree in Kinesiology. What does Matt have?? Training from Karl Gotch, who thinks so little of him? (if course, the letter is real) On a personal note, I have his seen his combat conditioning DVD's and tapes. Not very impressive. The Handstand "Power" DVD wasn't all the great either. I'm a gymnast, so sorry, can't fool me, I know handstands. I need to know guys, is Matt Furey really the fraud many people says he is? I'm starting to believe that, since he does charge up to $25,000.00 for a private session. I need some opinions, please.

We stopped carrying Matt's products because we stopped carrying other publisher's products with the exception of KB-related products by some of our RKCs. I have known Matt for about ten years and used to carry his wrestling books a long time ago. We used to swap notes about qigong and about marketing. I used to see him at marketing workshops on a regular basis. Then we went our separate ways. Matt decided to position himself as a cartoony in-your-face personality with an aggressive style. I am not about to comment further about that, but it clearly hasn't hurt his bank account.

Can't think of a better group to represent HardStyle kettlebells than the ancient Spartans! The last movie on the battle of Thermopylae was a little cheesy, although still amazing because of the historical content. 300 Greeks holding off a massive army of Persians for a number of days... can't beat that. This director is so edgy I can't wait to see his version -- plus the actors will be hardstyle kettlebellers...

I do agree with Ross's article - a conditioning program is where you work on strength and other "weak" links - you then transfer that to your goal activity through skill practice.
